Happy Birthday Daddy!

Let’s party!

I celebrated my birthday Saturday with my family and friends at Marin Brewing Company. First thing I did after sitting down was order a sampler tray. Unfortunately, the sampler diagram the provide contained maybe half of the beers on tap, and some simply said “fruit beer” or “seasonal,” and with the tap list out of view, I decided to just do some drinking and make mental notes of what caught my attention.

I do remember I started with the Left Hand Pale Ale, an unfiltered ale. This was a decent beer, not my favorite, but good. There were two fruit beers, a raspberry and blueberry ale. They tasted like a typical fruit/wheat combination. The fruit flavors of their wheat ales were prominent, but not overpowering. Also on the sampler was their Wheat Star. This is a triple wheat ale, very sweet, similar to port. I passed the sampler around and a few of my friends ordered a 10 oz glass for themselves. I ordered a bomber to take home.
Between more samples of beers and talking to friends I hadn’t seen in a while, the samples blended together. The Red Ale was a seasonal which I saved for the later part of the evening. The grand finale was the San Quentin Breakout Stout. I missed this one last time I visited Marin brewing, but not this time. This is a very good beer. Dry and roasty, I’d compare it to the Blarney Flats Oatmeal Stout. If you get a chance t havethis at the brewery, do so.
At the end of the night I left with a bottle of Wheat Star, some BevMo gift cards and a Micheal Jackson book. The gift cards wll be put to good use as I’m looking at the prospect of opening beer in the closet that I would like to let age a little longer. The book surprised me because it was from a friend who doesn’t drink beer, but was a perfect selection. Any books by Micheal Jackson are a welcome addition to a beer drinkers library. Thank you Tommy.
