Firkin Sweet!
March 28, 2008 by Mario
Yes, I know, it’s a bad pun, but I couldn’t help myself. What, you don’t get it? A Firkin is a traditional wooden cask equal to a quarter barrel. So what? Beer served from a firkin is naturally carbonated without added CO2 or Nitrogen. Brits refer to these kinds of beers as real ale. Are we on the same page yet? Well I’ll tell you what the firk I’m talking about if you just listen and stop asking questions.
Triple Rock is having their 5th Annual Firkin Gravity Festival next weekend (April 5th) in Berkeley. Ooooh, now you get it. Look for over 25 breweries to bring their firkins for your drinking pleasure. No unifying style, just old fashioned beer in barrels. Twenty bucks gets you in the door at 11 am and you’ll get a tasting glass, 5 tasting tickets and one full pour. Additional tastings go for $1 or you can 6 for $5. All proceeds go to the Alisa Anne Rusch Burn Foundation.
For more information on the festival, check out the website here.
