The Aluminum Revolution
April 14, 2008 by Mario
There’s a new trend in brewing that most not be aware of. Well, it’s not exactly brewing, but packaging. And, it’s not exactly new, it’s old, and it kinda sucked. It’s an aluminum can, and it’s going to change the world, or the way you drink beer, one brand of beer, in select markets.
In case you think quality beer can’t come in a can, check with Oskar Blues. Old Chub, Dale’s Pale, Ten Fidy, all very good beers, all come in a can. Locally, 21st Amendment has been putting their IPA in this crushable container. So who else is joining the crowd? None other than New Belgium Brewing Co. The flagship Fat Tire will be available in select markets. The move is in step with New Belgium’s commitment to sustainability. In case you didn’t know, aluminum cans are easily recyclable, lighter than bottles and therefore cheaper, cleaner to transport.
So look for the Fat Tire in a can in your favorite brew store. Experienced craft beer in a can? Share your experiences here.

I couldn’t resist trying Dale’s Pale in a can last time I was in Colorado: I was there for my friend Dale’s wedding. Good beer, but I could taste a little bit of can-ness. I’ve never had it in bottle though, so I guess I can’t make a great comparison.
