Like a Phoenix: Hopmonk Tavern
April 15, 2008 by Mario
Way back when, Powerhouse Brewing Co was the brewery in the city of Sebastopol. They closed and sometime after, Sebastopol Brewing took their place in the historic downtown Sebastopol building. From the figurative ashes of what was Sebastopol Brewing Company, Hopmonk Tavern has been born.
Here is the press release for the Hopmonk’s opening:
Hopmonk Tavern is poised to revolutionize the way we think of beer and food while reintroducing world-class craft beer to Northern California Wine Country—the little-known birthplace of craft beer.
Hopmonk brings foodies, beer lovers, music lovers and passers-by together to fill a void in the Northern California food and beer scene—and challenges popular wine craze with genuine beer hospitality, offering outstanding food and drink in a welcome environment lacking pretense. Highlighting the often-overlooked complementary relationship of craft beer and gourmet fare, the tavern feels like drinking in a restaurant as opposed to eating in a bar, and features an outdoor beer garden and state-of-the-art music venue onsite.
I have seen the list of beer that will be available and I have to say, it is rather impressive. There will be a selection brewed on site, draft beers brewed for Hopmonk by Gordon Biersch, as well as a selection of local and imported beers. Not enough? You want a bottled selection. Well I hope you’re sitting down. I’ve been told that there will be over 120 bottled beers to chose from. I have seen the list and let’s just say, I am in awe.
Thanks to Lani for all of her help with keeping me up to date with the hapenings. Hopefully I’ll make it down there in the near future to get some impressions for myself.
