A couple weeks ago I mentioned that InBev was looking into acquiring Anheuser-Busch for $46 Billion. Well that number has now become a official.
For now, InBev appears to be courting Anheuser-Busch, trying to sell the idea of the acquisition as a win-win situation. Carlos Brito, InBev chief executive, is talking up St. Louis and the US breweries, easing concerns of drastic changes to Anheuser-Busch’s operations.
To me, the comments seem like a mafia boss, trying to convince you to become his business partner. Sure, he’s smiling, and what he’s saying makes sense, but it’s the guys out back with a can of gasoline that are really doing the convincing. I’m not taking sides on this deal, to me it’s either a mega brewery, or the world largest conglomeration of breweries. Either way, bland beer will rule the day.
