As you can probably tell, I’m a fan of Lagunitas and their seasonal brews.  This summer has been good to me in that respect as I’ve been able to drink my favorite Lagunitas seasonal, Lucky 13, and be introduced to what is a new favorite, We’re Only In It For The Money.  Such a good summer comes at a cost though.  There have been changes to the Lagunitas release schedule.  (more…)

Have you ever wondered why the drinking age is 21?  Basically it was up to individual states to determine their own drinking age until 1984 when the National Drinking Age Act tied highway funds to maintaining a drinking age of 21.  So why 21?  Does it even work?  If you ask me, the answer is no.  A few people agree with me, and the topic has made it to the national press, so let’s discuss.  (more…)

How much beer do you drink in a week?  How much do you spend on beer in a week?  I typically have a beer, maybe 2 in any given night, maybe an average of 7-10 beers a week.  Let’s say the average beer costs $3 (somewhere between $5 bombers and $1.50 6-pack bottle prices) and I come to $20-$30 a week.  Not too bad if you ask me.  Apparently, it could be much worse.  (more…)

The rumors have been out there.  InBev was attempting, what some described as a hostile takeover, to acquire Anhuerser-Busch for $47 billion.  Apparently, tossing in an extra $5 billion removes all forms of hostility.  For those who need help, that means InBev ponied up $52 billion for Anhueser-Busch, creating the new company Anhuerser-Busch InBev.  (more…)

Not sure if you follow global news, but a growing philanthropic trend in developing countries is micro-credit.  The Nobel Peacwe Prize in 2006 was given to Muhammad Yunus for his effort to bring micro-credit to the poor people of Blangladesh who couldn’t qualify for typical bank approved loans.  While I dare not compare American craft brewers to the poor of Bangladesh, this practice of micro-credit has come to America and the craft brewing industry, and this is thanks in a large part to the Boston Beer Company.  (more…)
