I’m getting older, and in my old age, I have grown an aversion to buying 6-packs. Why? I rarely drink more than one beer at a time, and when I look in my fridge, I want a choice. Mixed 6 packs and 22 oz bombers are the way I like to go. Sometimes this takes me out of my way to find the beers I want. But it’s nice to know when I hit Safeway for groceries that I can always find the Lagunitas seasonal release in 22 oz bottles. So I was excited to see the new schedule of seasonal releases for 2008. We all know the wonderful selection of brews that the holidays bring, but it gets even better when that selection enters your home and makes itself cozy in your fridge. A couple trips down the beer aisle and some generous gifts from friends around the country have lead to a fridge full of holiday cheer and new beers I have yet to try. One of the goals of this blog is to expose our small corner of the world to everyone out there. Living in Santa Rosa, I’m in the middle of, what I consider to be, one of the best beer producing regions in the world. Bear Republic, Lagunitas and Russian River are all based within a 15 minute drive of my home, and as you trek north into Mendocino County you only find more quality breweries. But that involves driving, and when drinking these quality beers it’s bet to not have the car keys in hand. This is why Downtown Santa Rosa might be considered one of the best places to spend an afternoon drinking beer. Put on some comfy shoes, we’re going for a walk. (more…)

Seasonal Release that is. One of my favorite local breweries (with a wide distribution) is Lagunitas. The IPA is their bread and butter, and while I have grown bored with it, the brewery still appeals to me with the other brews they release from time to time. I’m sure many of you have run into their wacky Frank Zappa inspired brews, but that day has passed. Winter brings new releases. This year, Cappuccino Stout in 22 oz bottles and 6 packs of Brown Shugga. (more…)
