What really excites me about the craft brewing industry are the anniversary and tribute releases. They are typically only available once and you have to make sure you catch them while you can, or hear other people rave about them, knowing the brew will never pass over your lips. So here’s some news on these special ales that will be coming soon to a beer store near you.
Lagunitas’ delayed “We’re Only In It For The Money” tribute to FrankZappa’s 4th album will reportedly be a Belgian Triple. I was told this may be bigger than the #10 Lagunitas released a few years back. Expect these to find their ways to store shelves as soon as Lucky 13 runs out. If you’re anxious for the next Zappa brew, do your part and drink more Lucky 13. Twist my arm, will ya’?
Deschutes is also in on the anniversary thing, celebrating 20 years this summer. In honor, they will be releasing a Black Butte XX and 20th Anniversary Wit. The Black Butte XX is an enhanced Black Butte, featuring Bellatazza coffee, Theo Chocolate cocoa nibs and Strahan’s whiskey barrel aging. This will be part of their Reserve Series which brought us The Abyss earlier this year. The 20th Anniversary Wit is a part of their Bond Street Series and is a Belgian styled wheat beer with Curacao orange zest and other spices. A test batch took Gold at Portland’s Spiring Beer and Wine Fest earlier this year.
Looks like we have some tasty brews on the way. Try to catch at least one of these when they hit the shelves in the near future.
Update: Calling around looking for places to buy the Deschutes, I called Bottle Barn and was told they have 10 cases of The Abyss left at $9 a bottle. If you’ve missed out so far, get to Santa Rosa and grab some beer.
