How much beer do you drink in a week? How much do you spend on beer in a week? I typically have a beer, maybe 2 in any given night, maybe an average of 7-10 beers a week. Let’s say the average beer costs $3 (somewhere between $5 bombers and $1.50 6-pack bottle prices) and I come to $20-$30 a week. Not too bad if you ask me. Apparently, it could be much worse.
A man in Australia was said to spend $1,000 per week on beer. His beer of choice was Melbourne Bitter. I’ve never had this beer, but the folks at RateBeer give it a 1.85 (5 percentile). Compare this to Budweiser, which gets a 1.38 and a 1 percentile. A little searching on the internet shows the beer typically sells for $2 AU per bottle. That means he was drinking 500 beers a week, or roughly 3 cases of beer per day. I realize that internet beer prices tend to be a little high, and if you’re drinking that much, you’re probably getting a better price, so the 3 cases per day is a floor, not a ceiling.
Could you drink $1,000 worth of beer in a week? Limit yourself to the selection available in your area, basically, what you could buy today, and even give a little leeway (assume you have access to a bottle of Midas Touch). I don’t think I could do it. Maybe if I had no work, no responsibilities at home, and access to a very nice beer cellar, even then, $1,000 is a lot of money. Again, all of that beer would have to be consumed.
Last note, I like how the judge made a dig at the guy’s choice of beer.
