The time has come to clean out the mess known as the den closet. This is where the wife and I tossed various things that had specific place when we first moved in 3 years ago. Little has changed since then, but we have new bookcases so that means we have a place for books and such. OK, so the bookcases are about a year old, but this is beside the point, it was time to dive in the closet and see what I could find.
Surprisingly, what I found was a treasure trove of beer related “stuff.” The first thing I found was a stack of old coasters Wes and I collected at the KLCC Homebrew fest some 4 or 5 years ago. Not very useful, but we beer fans seem to like odd coasters, don’t we?
I also found a bottle of homebrew that was named “49er Ale” after their horrible season a few years ago that earned them the No. 1 Draft Pick. This batch suffered a bad infection and stunk of burned rubber and all other kinds of nastiness. Yes, Wes and I actually took a sip, which lingered in our mouths for a good half hour. Dumping these beers was no joy either, as the kitchen was to be avoided for the remainder of the afternoon.
Next was a gift from the mother-in-law from when I first moved to town. She knew I was into beer and brewing beer and bought me a home brewing kit. No, not a real one, but one that comes in a box. This is probably one step up from making wine in the toilet while serving time in a state correctional facility. It’s the thought that counts though, and it was a very thoughtful gift, but I doubt I will ever open this.
Moving on, the next item was found inside a box. This was one of my goofy little items I had around my apartment when I was a single guy. Definitely not going to find it’s way onto the bookshelf today, but maybe if I have my own desk or office at home one day, it might come back out. They are Bob and Doug collectibles from the movie Strange Brew. The base they sit on actually has buttons you can press and hearquotes from the movie. Very absurd, but very cool for the beer lover of B-comedies. Has Rick moranis’ career ever reached such heights after this?
The last item I found must be from about 5 years ago. They are recipe cards from a sampler pack of Michelob beers. I can’t remember much about the beers, other than the Honey Lager was far too sweet. I scanned all 12 recipes for you so that you can use them if you feel the need. None really jump out as must try recipes, but none sound too bad either. While the Michelob beers may be hard to find now, I am sure there can be suitable replacements found at the beer store.
So that’s it for today folks. Who knows, maybe next time I clean out the attic.
I wanted to make sure to share all there is in the pictures, so click the images for full size photos.
